March 6, 2014, Thursday in Uganda

We were all up early.  Some of us had to be on the road at 9am for the pastors conference.  It was a nice cool morning (75) and we enjoyed some quiet time after breakfast.

Five of us headed off to the Pastors Conference in Wakiso, about 30 minutes away.  It was so hot there in their church with a tin roof, and by noon it was pretty unbearable for those of us not used to the heat!  A cool breeze kicked up and we were relieved while some of the ladies around were pulling on their sweaters?! There was a good turn out with 42 senior pastors, and about 15-20 other pastors and leaders.  They prepared a wonderful lunch for us, and we tried plantain for the first time.

John setting up communion--
we later found out this was the first time for communion for most.

How you wash your hands....

Big bowl of "Matoke"--cooked plantain...looks like a banana, but its NOT!!

The BEST pineapple in the world!!

Erick played the harmonica for this crowd....they loved it!

It was wonderful to see so many bibles and note pads at the conference

Distributing books and sharing the use of the childrens bible.

AND the children's bible was a hit!

Others from our group went to the schools to teach in the morning.  The kids learned a song, and colors, and loved our group visiting them.
The afternoon was a prison visit as well as elderly visits.  The prison visit was witnessing to the prisoners as well as praying with them.

The elderly visit was to a Muslim elderly lady that was open to the visit, but would not let them pray with her because of her religion.  I’m sure that didn’t stop them praying for her!

We returned home in time for a wonderful dinner of Musaca, which was pasta, zucchini, hamburger, white sauce and cheese.

While we were gone today, a Jack Fruit fell from the tree in front of our house.  Of course, we needed to know how to cut this wonderful fruit....so off to the guard station some of our group went...
                                        Erick gets careful instruction

                                      Dani giving it a try.....

Jack Fruit is the sweetest, stickiest fruit around...but so tasty!

The rest of the evening was spent visiting, reading, and some of us watched a Tim Hawkins Video. Imagine the laughter when Erick had a peanut skin stuck on his tooth....he looked like he lost his tooth!!  Amazing!!  We've laughed on this trip more than any of us have laughed in a long time.  Pure fun.

As things quieted down we could hear the drums in a nearby village.  Lots of music here in Africa.  We're going to miss the sound of the drums at night...however, I don't think we will miss the goats!
