March 7, 2014—Friday in Uganda

Today was a fun day.  We started off in the morning with breakfast and then our own devotion time.  We loaded up to head to Wakiso and part of our team went to the Market place for outreach, and the other part to the clinic, where we were able to pray with many that were there.  We also went into the labor and delivery clinic, and were able to pray with a Dad who was pacing outside.  It was his first baby and his wife was in labor when we arrived.  Before we left, she had delivered a baby girl, and he was happy to rush in to see her.  It was a blessing to be able to pray with so many there.  Unfortunately, this is not a venue to just be running around snapping pictures.  We keep the clinic visits pictured in our minds, and know that our prayers may have made a difference to them.

Walking to the market after our time at the clinic

We headed from there to the Pastors conference in Wakiso, as Pastor Tom finished up his morning session and we were able to have lunch with them.
Our next stop was the Craft Market in Kampala.  It was a crazy drive there, but a safe one.  The traffic here is insane!  We spent a few hours in the craft market, purchasing some wonderful gifts to bring home from Africa.

                                         Pastor Fred and Pastor Tom
I don't believe any of us will ever turn our nose up at a
'less than clean' gas station with a western toilet again!!!
These gals were the brave ones!!!

We headed home, ready for a great meal, and we were not disappointed.  Tonights meal was potatoes that had been boiled in saltwater, and then deep fried for just a few seconds…they were yummy!!  We also had a vegetable dish with many different varieties of vegetables, with the wonderful African spice we’ve all grown to love.  Fresh fruit topped it off, and our stomachs were once again happy!

After dinner, we had the chance to meet Peter the Painter.  You can view his story by clicking here. Many of us brought a painting of his home.  It was fun for us to meet him.

We headed back to the house, and went through some of our treasures...and Raj, (one of the interns we shared the house with) got is Aladdin costume on (YES--those are Dani's pants from Israel), and we headed out to the fire.

As it was our last night here, the staff put on their African dance for us, as well as the interns did a dance.  Afterward, we all enjoyed the bonfire, and they showed us many dance moves, and Johnny showed them a dance of his own.

We learned that Pastor Tom can "Bust a move"  (pretty sure those were his words)!
However, those Uganda men really have the rhythm.
Some white boys try to dance....
                                            And some try to learn....
However, Soni showed them how to get down!
                                        AND Johnny surprised us all....

He even showed the team how to line dance.....

Everyone had a great time, and even though we’d like to make this last night last longer, we were all tired from the busy day.  We have most of the day Saturday before we leave after dinner.  Our hearts and minds are forever changed, and I'm convinced some of us could be very happy living here.  It's going to be a tough day tomorrow.  God has richly blessed us here in Uganda.  Tonight is the last night for the outdoor worship, the drums, and yes, even the goats.  Those will live now in our hearts forever, or, until we come again.
