March 5, 2014—Wednesday in Uganda

It’s quiet in the compound this morning.  Wednesday’s are the day off for the staff here.  We were alone for breakfast, except for Raj (one of the interns here) and then we had time to do some laundry.
The pastors began to arrive as we packed up to head out to Margaret & Pastor Georges home.  They have 11 children, and Margaret really needed some help getting some things done.
A few of us cleaned and washed the floors inside.  Some of us hauled water to do the wash, some of washed laundry, others cleaned the toilets (African toilets—which is a square hole in the floor), and others cleaned up the yard around the house.  We spent two hours there, and the time flew.

We returned for a yummy lunch (Sarah, one of our kitchen cooks, when we ask what is for for lunch or dinner, she always answers “Something Yummy”) of potatoes and meat with fresh pineapple.  It’s been a real treat to have the fresh fruit.

Erick was teaching the pastors how to use the materials we passed out yesterday. He stated that to see their hunger and their excitement as they learned to use their study materials was beyond exciting for him. Aside from the hunger for the word, there was no lunch provided for the pastors today, so Erick shared with them American snacks!  Imagine their faces when they had a granola bar! It was a great day and Erick said it was the best teaching experience of his life.

Meanwhile, Tom & Sherry spent the day with Pastor Fred, who is the head pastor over the region.  They taught him how to use his new tablet and spent some good quality time together. He said to Tom & Sherry "This is POWERFUL".  He has enough study materials to spread the word wisely.

Dani got a chance to head out to the village to meet her sponsored child Noleine, sadly she was not there.  She is hopeful to meet her on Saturday at "Say No to Hunger"

 John & Raj---being boys!

The rest of us relaxed for the afternoon….and enjoyed rice and beans for dinner, again, with fresh pineapple!  We were treated to a beautiful sunset and then later an incredible thunderstorm, that we all stood outside and watched from under the porch cover.  It sounded like we were watching fireworks with all the “oooh’s and aahhhhs” mixed in with a few “WOW’S”!

Afterward, we spent about an hour in worship, just spending time singing praises with our Lord.  Always a good way to end a day.
