February 25, 2014

Today started off at 5am, and out the door by 6:30---

Our first stop was Banaise Springs, also known as Caesarea of Phillipi….Pans Temple.  This is where Jesus told his disciples that he would build his church upon the rock.  Matthew 16:13 was our study before we headed off to view ruins of Temple of Pan.  it was a beautiful area, and many of us were wishing we had more time to view more of this pretty national site.  The park was lush, with a creek, and more like home than we’ve seen in a few days.

From there we headed to the Sea of Galilee.  We had everything from sun to sprinkles, yet our time there was blessed.  We went through the church of the Beatitudes and Erick did a teaching from Matthew 5:1-12  and  Psalms 63 :1  The area there was beautiful and beautiful gardens surrounded us.  If you could imagine all the gardens gone, you could visualize the multitudes on the hillside.

We left from there and headed to Capernaum.  Our first stop was to get close to the Sea.  Most of us put our feet in, and spent some great time in fellowship.  DSC_2777-001

From the sea, we made our way into the village of Capernaum where we say Peter’s home, along with many homes in the village.  There isn’t much besides the bases of these homes, but it was great to visualize the busy times that happened in this fishing village. After our village tour we had worship right next to the synagogue where Jesus taught along with a teaching from Tom from John 6:26.  It was a moving time, next to the Sea of Galilee, listening to a teaching from Tom, worshiping with Erick and taking communion as a family.

Next stop was the Galilee Boat Museum, where a boat was excavated from the shores of the Sea of Galilee.  We enjoyed seeing how the boat was constructed, the fact that it was so old, and preserved so well.  You could close your eyes and see Jesus climbing into the boat after he walked to the disciples over the water, and calmed the storm.

Our last stop was the Jordan River, where five of our group rededicated our baptisms. Nothing like being baptized where Jesus was baptized by your own pastor.
